Mr Jason Moriarty 5th Dan

(Club: Killarney TKD Club/South West TKD Centre. Instructor: Master Don Dalton)

Background:
Mr. Moriarty has been Irish competitor of the year in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 2000. He was the first student of Mr. Dalton (along with Mr. Riordan) and went on to become the Irish men's captain from 1998 to 2001. The formation of the Irish United Taekwon Do Federation in 1994 signaled the beginning of his inexorable rise to stardom giving him the opportunity to develop and compete on the international stage. Prior to this Mr. Moriarty had to be content with small local events under the auspices of the Taekwon Do Federation of Ireland. Now Mr. Jason Moriarty is without doubt one of Ireland's best known Taekwon Do fighters having dominated the country's lightweight division for over a decade. During his years of involvement in the art (he started training in 1986) he has won medals consistently at every level while representing Ireland's largest Taekwon Do association, the Irish United Taekwon Do Federation. In 2001 he slipped a disc in his back and was forced to retire from
competition due to continuing back problems. In 2006 he came out of retirement and was selected to be a part of the Irish team which won a silver medal in the ITF European Championships in team sparring.
