GTI Chairperson Conducts Referee Course

GTI Chairperson Mr. Frank Murphy conducted a certified GTI referee course for the IUTF. The event was attended by over 40 participants who had the opportunity to gain first hand referee and judging experience under the auspices of Mr. Murphy.

Mr. Riordan and Mr. Moriarty Test for 3rd Dan

Mr. Riordan and Mr. Moriarty of South West TKD tested under GTI Chairperson Mr. Frank Murphy (6th Dan) for their 3rd Dan Black Belts. Mr. Moriarty and Mr. Riordan are Mr. Dalton first students. They had to undergo a long and arduous testing which included all patterns, step sparring, free sparring, self defence, breaking, combinations, competence at instruction and theory. Mr. Murphy who was a guest of the IUTF commented on the duo’s excellent technique.

Charleville TKD Joins the IUTF

The Charleville TKD Club has joined the IUTF, leaving the AITA in the process.Head instructor Mr. Tom O’ Sullivan 1st Dan became acquainted with the IUTF as a result of Mr. Kevin McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy (originally of Charleville TKD) had become a student of Mrs. Dalton at the CIT and had informed Mr. O’ Sullivan of the great new force in Irish TKD circles.
According to Mr. O’ Sullivan “I began to train under Mr. Dalton and Mrs. Dalton at the CIT and then I attended the IUTF squad sessions. I was taken aback by the high standards and the open and friendly way I was received. The squad sessions were amazing and I now look forward to being a productive member of this great new organisation."

IUTF Win Battle of the Champions

The Irish United Taekwon Do Federation national team travelled to Dublin to participate in the Battle of the Champions team event. The team was captained by Mr. John Riordan who led by example by winning all his bouts. The team had to face opposition from Karate, Kung Ku and Taekwon Do.

IUTF beat the GTI UK

The IUTF national team took on their UK counterparts from the GTI as part of the Cork Open Championships held in the Cork RTC. It resulted in an emphatic win for the Irish team which was coached by Mr. Dalton. The GTI team (coached by Mr. Sewell) included such seasoned fighters and world medal winners as Neil Williams, Tanya Cox and Steve Pearson. IUTF winners included Mr. Fitzgibbon, Mrs. Koniuch (Dalton), Irish Female Competitor of the Year Ms. Yvonne O Shea.

IUTF Youths win in England

Irish Youth Team coach Mr. John Riordan brought a six person team to compete against a GTI youths team under the tutelage of Mr. Frank Murphy. The competition was held in Kent and resulted in a resounding win for the Irish team. Special praise should go to Kathy Dunne who showed excellent technique during her bout. Kathy captained the team and looks to have a bright future ahead of her. The trip was funded by the IUTF.
