IUTF Dominate TAGB Ulster Championships
The IUTF travelled to Northern Ireland for the first time ever for the TAGB Ulster Championships and left with almost 20 medals. Mr. Philpott won three gold medals and was the most successful of the Irish party. The atmosphere was friendly and the southern competitors tended to dominate each of the sections throughout the day. Irish coach Mr. Dalton thanked Mr. Farrell for the hospitality and commented on how well the preparations were going for the upcoming Open World Championships.
The IUTF travelled to Germany to take place in the North German Taekwon Do Championships. The Irish team also had the opportunity to participate in a special seminar with Master Morris Alarashi, head of “Ko Dang Taekwon Do” and instructor to former WAKO World Champion, Doctor Ludger Dietzer. The team won a total of nine medals the following day. Special mention should go to mr. Keane and Moriarty who both dominated their respective devisions with ease.
The ITU Welsh team travelled to Cork to face a very strong IUTF men’s team in a return match which the Irish won in Cardiff 14 months previously. The Welsh hopes of revenge were dashed early on when local favourite Mark Philpott got the Irish off to a winning start. In the end the result was a complete whitewash for the Irish team which remained undefeated throughout
Mr. Moriarty and Mr. Philpott were on the mark again in Einhoven when they each won bronze and silver medals respectively in the -63kg and -58kg weight categories. They were part of a five man team which travelled to Holland on the IUTF funded trip. Each of the large Black Belt sections were competitive with entrants to be found from across the continant. This will be the same venue for the upcoming Open World Championships next year.
